Hedging and Screening List Winter 09 updated 14.12.2009

General recommendations are that Hawthorn hedging is best planted in a double row 25cm (10 inches) apart, 30cm apart within the rows (ie. 5/6 plants per metre). For a natural mix or tapestry hedge, mix at least 5% other shrubs appropriate to the environs ie. hawthorn, hazel, hornbeam, wild rose and blackthorn. Why not add a few climbers ie. honeysuckle to give a natural rustic appearance?
