Rural Hedging
General recommendations are that hawthorn hedging is best planted in a double row 25 (10 inches) apart, 30 apart within the rows (ie. 5/6 plants per metre). For a natural mix or tapestry hedge, mix at least 5% other shrubs appropriate to the environs ie. Hawthorn, Corylus, Rosa rugosa and Carpinus.
Why not add a few climbers ie. Lonicera (Honeysuckle) to give a natural rustic appearance?
